Hey, I'm Eric.
Meet Eric Hislop, Wellington software engineer and the person behind Thrifty Kiwi. Fair prices, plain English, and real results for NZ small businesses.
I’m a software engineer based in Wellington, and I help New Zealand small businesses look credible online.
That usually means a website, but it doesn’t stop there. A lot of owners never get round to fixing their Google listing, or they’re still using a personal Gmail for work. I can help with those pieces too so the whole picture makes sense.
During the day I write code professionally. In my own time I’ve been building sites and online projects (everything from coupon directories to a childcare centre) because I enjoy it, and because I think too many Kiwi businesses are either overpaying for basics or muddling through alone.
That’s why I started Thrifty Kiwi. The name says it all: fair prices, straight talk. No agencies, no account managers, no fluff. Just me, helping you show up online the way you want to.
Why work with me?
You’re not a ticket number. I’m a real person. When you email me, I reply. When you have a question, I answer it in plain English.
I keep costs low on purpose. I use sensible tools and avoid unnecessary lock-in. Those savings get passed on to you.
I actually care about the result. Every project is one I’m happy to put my name on. Your site and your listing are my reputation too.
When I’m not coding, you’ll find me wrangling the kids, hunting for deals (old habits die hard), or gaming when the house finally goes quiet.
